 Located in the southern counties of the state, the Lowcountry's main features are forests, swamps, marshes, and the coastline. The term "Low Country" was originally used to describe the area below the Sandhills, or Fall Line, which runs from Aiken County to Chesterfield County.  

 Includes the counties of Aiken, Barnwell, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, Saluda, and York.  

 Located in the northeastern part of the state, the Pee Dee is named after the Pee Dee Native American tribe. The region is along the lower watershed of the Pee Dee River. Including Myrtle beach, Florance and Conway 

Includes the counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, and Union. The term "Upstate" was coined in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a rebranding effort for the area.
